Wexford Reading kicks off a Weekend of Crazy

I had the busiest weekend I think I’ve had for a long time. It kicked off in the Fusion Café in Wexford Town. The fantastic monthly poetry event run by Denis Collins has been going for a few years and every month, there’s an open mic and featured poet that reads their work. This month I was asked to read from Jewtown and I shared the night with a really interesting poet from Gyan (now living in Wales) called Maggie Harris. It was a great night but a late one.

The weekend continued in the same vain on the next day when I went up to Dublin to see Faithless in Kilmainham. Rozz and I had a great day and evening meeting up with friends. I must admit I wasn’t much of a fan when they were out (with the exception of Insomnia) but I really enjoyed the gig and must start going to more if I can. There’s something special about live music.

This morning I was off to a protest march about equality (or the lack of it) in education. I was one of the guest speakers outside the Dáil, where I spoke about how one shouldn’t have to be lucky to have a choice of schools. I’ve never spoke at a rally before and have never been as nervous. (There’s no PowerPoint to keep on task!) However, I think it went really well and it was excellent to meet people who have been involved in the campaign face-to-face. I even managed to make the Irish Times and they managed to be generous in their quoting of what I said.

All in all, a very busy weekend and in the words of Faithless, I need to get some sleep!
